What is MOQ?

Every owner of a clothing brand who establishing a relationship with a manufacturer has probably encountered the term MOQ. The acronym stands for: Minimum Order Quantity. Therefore, it is the minimum quantity of merchandise that must be purchased in order for the manufacturer to accept the order.

Entities ordering clothes in China, where production costs are often much lower than in Poland, pay special attention to MOQ. However, it often involves ordering a larger batch of the same product. MOQ is usually lower for intermediary companies and slightly higher for manufacturers. However, there are also exceptions to this rule.

What can increase MOQ? Sometimes the necessity to order more products arises in case of personalized goods, for example with printed company logo or in case of unusual designs.

Minimum order quantity in B2B – what does it affect?

The minimum order quantity which is given by the apparel manufacturer, is mainly based on logistical and economic aspects related to the process of product manufacturing – for example, a t-shirt, sweatshirt or pants. The manufacturer receiving the order simply finds it more efficient to create more of the same products.

At the same time, ordering large batches of merchandise can also be a good solution for the other party. They can negotiate a better price per item and increase the stock in their store, ensuring a solid inventory, which is particularly useful for high turnover goods.

However, taking advantage of a high MOQ order is not always beneficial. There are times when a low MOQ apparel manufacturer can provide better terms and multifaceted support to the apparel business, especially in case of local entities operating on the European market, such as Strus Wear.

Polish low MOQ clothing manufacturer – reasons to partner with them

An increasing number of fashion companies are choosing to work with local sewing rooms. Why? Most often, it is because they are manufacturers from whom you can order with a much lower MOQ than from those in China.

What does a clothing brand gain from this? A small minimum order quantity allows you to test a new model, without incurring huge start-up costs. Therefore, it is a way to maintain liquidity, without freezing huge capital, not only in the initial phase of company development, but also at later stages, for example, when expanding the range in your store.

Ordering a small batch of merchandise also means you can increase the variety of products you order. Instead of a large batch of the same item, you can order other products and offer your customers a much larger selection. This translates into real profits and a wider range of customers, without significantly increasing costs.

Let’s not forget that fewer pieces of merchandise can reduce the costs associated with stocking products for sale, something that owners of smaller stationary and online stores like to take advantage of.
